The Mount Bermo Timbo Project is a new Out/Side/Film affiliated collective – a sonic and visual experiment that sets out to unearth and reanimate the creative legacy of Timothy Evan Davies (1946-2022) a.k.a El Timbo a.k.a Mount Bermo Timbo.
Timbo was an outsider savant, a restless seeker of the margins, and a font of boundless creativity. When he died, he left behind in his flat in Barmouth (Y Bermo) in West Wales an extraordinary and extensive archive of music, visual art, poetry and, in particular, a significant collection of curious musical instruments, all of which Timbo’s surviving brothers Ivor and Glyn have made available for use by the project. The vast majority of this work barely saw the light of day during Timbo’s lifetime but can be found here.
Between January and July 2024, we are running an inaugural series of monthly sessions, where we delve together into his poetry, music and visual art, and make collective improvisations with his instruments, to see what emerges and where it takes us.
These sessions take place in the downstairs hall, at Highfield Church, 11 Holland Pl, Highfield, Sheffield S2 4US. The venue is fully accessible.
A short film of the April session, shot by Ian Nesbitt, sound by Al McGregor, can be viewed here.
